BRIEF HISTORY OF Yurimaguas

It is located in the Huallaga river system and is included in part of the sub basins of the rivers Paranapura (middle and lower basin) and Shuani. Has an area of 2.684 m2, with an estimated population of 63.960 inhabitants. It is the first district in the province's economic importance. The Capital District is Yurimaguas.

According to tradition, Yurimaguas comes from the fusion of the Indians with Omaguas Yuris. The Yuris inhabited the region of the headwaters of the Acre and Purus Yurúa Omaguas and consisted of several groups in the region between the river and tributaries Tunguru Hurry (possibly Yapura).
